Markers & Memorials
A) Material
- All permanent markers must be solid Granite or Marble.
- Bronze markers must be mounted on a granite base with a 2-inch border.
- No other marker or memorial materials are allowed.
B) Sizes & Requirements for Specific Gardens
- Upright markers: max 4 ft height, 3 ft length, 14 in base width; min die/base 6″ thick.
- Flat markers: 4″–6″ thick; beveled markers allowed if within 6″ max.
- Single grave upright base: min 24″x12″x6″, max 36″x16″x8″. Infant base: max 10″x20″.
- Side-by-side base: min 40″x12″x4″, max 70″x16″x6″. Upright base can be 8″ thick if die matches.
- No uprights/slants allowed in flat-only gardens: Bethany, Hope, Prayer, Serenity, Tranquility, Eternity, Eternal Life.
- Flush-only markers: Single (min 28″x14″x4″, max 36″x16″x4″), Double (min 48″x14″x4″, max 60″x16″x4″).
- All flat markers (since 6/1/02) must meet minimum sizes in section 5a & 3.
- Flat markers must have rocked edges — no sawn/smooth edges allowed.
- No laser/photo etchings in granite. Porcelain photo portraits are allowed.
- Outside monument companies must have signed design approval from New Park Cemetery, Inc.
C) Temporary Markers
- Approved temporary markers allowed but not guaranteed against damage/loss.
- No foundations allowed on temporary markers.
D) Installation
- All installations by New Park Cemetery staff only.
- Fee: 26¢ per square inch of ground covered. Pay before or at delivery.
- Marker location: West end for West/East graves, North end for North/South.
- Deliveries accepted: Tues–Thurs, 10 AM – 3 PM.
- Installation within 30 days of delivery (weather permitting), not before 45 days after burial.
- Vases must be pre-mounted (anchor bolt or flush mount).
Grave Liners & Vaults
A) Requirements
- Rigid containers required for all burials (crypts, liners, concrete/steel vaults).
- Wooden boxes only for infants in babyland section.
- Max vault size: 34″ wide x 90″ long. Larger vaults require two plots.
Interments & Disinterments
A) Requirements
- Only New Park staff or authorized reps may perform interments/disinterments.
- Signed interment/disinterment form required 48 hrs prior.
- Pre-paid services must present an interment deed as proof.
Cremation Niches
- One cremains per niche in sealed rigid urn (max 10″x10″x10″).
- Only cemetery staff may open/close niches.
- No attachments allowed on niche fronts, except approved porcelain portrait.
- Engraving by cemetery or approved third party; standard layout enforced.
Miscellaneous Rules
- No items (memorials, plants, etc.) may be added/removed without written consent.
- Flowers are temporary and may be removed as needed.
- If a space is unusable, a space of equal size/value will be offered.
- Visitors must comply with Tenn. Code 46-3-102 and related laws.
- Disruptive behavior or profanity incurs $500 civil fine.
- Rules may change anytime without written notice.
